COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
CHRISTIAN ETHICS
In this course, students will pinpoint some issues of the modern day such as: abortion, homosexual marriage, euthanasia and so on. Students will research the current facts of the issue, the reason why some Christians agree or disagree with the issue, and what the Bible has to say about the issue.
CHRISTIAN LIFE AND DISCIPLESHIP
This course is designed to bring the students face-to-face with the terms of true biblical discipleship that the Lord Jesus laid out in the New Testament, and to challenge them to become deeper, more committed disciples of Him.
CULTS AND WORLD RELIGIONS
This is a class focusing on learning the basic tenets of the major cults and world religions and how to witness effectively to their adherents with thoughtful and Scriptural responses. This course is designed to bring the student face-to-face with the terms of true biblical discipleship that the Lord Jesus laid out in the New Testament, and to challenge them to become a deeper, committed disciple of Him.
THE EPISTLE TO THE ROMANS
This class will undertake a verse-by-verse exposition of the Epistle to the Romans, with careful attention being given to the thought, the historical significance, the major doctrines, and the application to today’s Church and our daily life.
FORMATION & THEOLOGY OF THE BIBLE
This course provides an overall look into the historical background & processes that brought about the inspired Word of God and how theology connects the Old & New Testaments, so students can provide a better response to criticisms of the Bible and develop a greater love for and obedience to the Lord.
HOMILETICS II
This class refocuses specifically on the rationale, development, and delivery of four interdependent expository sermons. Students will preach these sermons and will be evaluated by their fellow students and their instructor.
INTENSIVE COURSE
- Shepherding: This one-week course is taught in the Spring semester and offered every other year in rotation with the course on Prayer. This course will target preparation for an ongoing and developing perspective to Biblically tending and feeding the flock of God. In this course, we will look at the following: What was the shepherding mindset of the Lord? What is poor shepherding? What is our focus in shepherding? What is the goal for the sheep in shepherding? How do we get along in shepherding? and case studies in shepherding.
- Prayer: This one-week course is taught in the Spring semester and offered every other year in rotation with the course on Shepherding.
INTERMEDIATE GREEK
This course continues to build on the skills developed in Elementary Greek with an emphasis on further enhancing the student’s reading ability, grammatical knowledge, intermediate Greek syntax. Also, it will focus on the student’s ability to practice exegesis of the New Testament in Greek, through the reading of the Greek text of the Epistle to the Colossians as well as the Gospel of Mark.
INTRODUCTION TO MISSIONS
This course will look at the role of the individual and the role of the Church in world missions while examining the Biblical basis of missions past, present, and future.
INTRODUCTION TO THE MISSIONARY LIFE
This class is an introductory course to the call, the qualifications, and preparations of a missionary. This class will also examine the work, conflicts and accountability in a missionary’s life.
THEOLOGY & TECHNIQUES OF EVANGELISM
This course is designed to help the students not only to know the Biblical basis for evangelism but also to broaden their scope and understanding of techniques, styles, and ministries, that others use to evangelize the world. This will be accomplished by introducing a variety of ministries that will either expand the student’s creativity for new techniques, styles, and ministries or help them possibly settle as to their life’s work.
WISDOM LITERATURE
The purpose of this class is to prompt the student to pursue God’s wisdom; then to possess it, and then to put it into daily practice, in his or her walk with the Lord while still in this world.
PRACTICUM
- Students will continue to build upon the evangelistic techniques learned in T1. Through weekly evangelistic opportunities throughout the school year at nearby universities, shopping malls, parks and neighborhoods as well as through participation in a specially planned ministry outreach in the Spring semester.
- Students are strongly encouraged to attend and participate in the ministry of Calvary Bible Chapel as a further development of ministry skills.
